Notes to Editors:

Nick Dougherty started playing golf at the age of four when, armed with a club, he would follow his dad around Bootle Golf Club, near Liverpool, in the UK. At the age of six he won his first tournament – an under 14's competition at North Berwick and he hasn't looked back since. He was a prominent member of the victorious Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team in August 2001, and turned professional the following week.

Nick completed a highly successful first season on The European Tour by finishing in 36th place on the Order of Merit, a performance which earned him the honour of being named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year for 2002. Further progress in 2003 was hindered by glandular fever and after a moderate 2004, he made a spectacular start to 2005, finishing tied fourth at the South African Airways Open and claiming his breakthrough title in the Caltex Masters, presented by Carlsberg, Singapore 2005 the following week. Nick's impressive form in 2005 earned him a spot in the Great Britain & Ireland Seve Trophy team where he caught the eye with some impressive performances.
